Call for nominations to the ACCW Executive Committee

Deadline for Nominations: Midday 13th August 2022

The Call for Nominations is now open, and we are seeking nominations for the open positions of Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, and 2 x Additional Candidates.

Our primary mission is to support African individuals and communities across Wellington. Service on the African Community Council in an executive position is a rare chance to help address the issues and opportunities we have in common as African in New Zealand, while promoting and integrating African culture and heritage as well as increasing community participation.

Candidate requirements

  • A current member of the African Community Council of Wellington or willing to become a member before forwarding nomination. (Submit Membership form)
  • Have time to dedicate to fulfilling the responsibilities associated with the position.
  • Passion for advancing the interests of all Africans in New Zealand.  

Tenure of Positions

The tenure of all executives in a particular position is two years.  

Nomination Process

All members in good standing (i.e., who have paid their membership fees) may nominate candidates for these positions; no self-nominations are allowed.

If you are nominating someone, please submit a nomination form (Download here) and make sure you have first ascertained their willingness to serve if elected.

If you have been nominated by someone, please submit a candidate profile (Download here) to the chair of the election committee.

Please send your nomination form and candidate profile to the chair of the election committee (president@africancommunity.org.nz) by midday 13th August 2022.   Please put “ACCW Nomination” as the subject of your email. Before the election, the election committee will contact all nominees for a brief interview to confirm nominees’ willingness to run for a position, outline position requirements, and to verify nominee eligibility.

Election Process

Elections will take place at the Annual General Meeting which will be held at ASB Sports Centre in Kilbirnie on the 10th of September 2022 (2-5pm).

Successful candidates will be inducted and begin their terms the same day.
